7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

5 to flame the spell checkers.

3 to correct spelling/grammar flames.

6 to argue over whether it’s “lightbulb” or “light bulb” … another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid.

2 industry professionals to chime in and inform the group that the proper term is “lamp”.

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that “light bulb” is perfectly correct.

19 to post that this blog post is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum.

11 to defend the comments to this blog saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this blog post.

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty.

7 to post URL’s where one can see examples of different light bulbs.

4 to post that the URL’s were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL’s.

3 to post about links they found from the URL’s that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group.

13 to read all comments to date, quote them in their entirety including
all headers, images and signatures, and add “I agree”.

5 to comment that they will no longer comment on this blog because they
cannot handle the light bulb controversy.

4 to say “didn’t we go through this already a short time ago?”.

We have been registering domain names on behalf of our web design customers and hosting their web sites for some time now. We have never offered domains and hosting as a stand-alone service, only as part of a web design package.

Well that has now changed!

Due to popular demand we have decided to open up our domain name registration and web hosting system to everyone in a self-serve store. You can easily search for and register domain names, buy web hosting, SSL certificates and more and the prices are super competitive and best of all, unlike many other hosting companies we offer 24/7 telephone support*.

How do we do it?

Our servers are in a datacentre in the USA which is far more cost effective than hosting over here. But this isn’t just any datacentre, this is run by the biggest domain name registrar in the world handling over 25 million domain names from their facility in Arizona.

Due to our bulk buying requirements we have managed to negotiate excellent rates and we’re passing these on to you:

Domain Names: from under £5 per year

Web Hosting: from under £4 per month

Virtual Servers: from under £35 per month

Dedicated Servers: from under £50 per month

It’s quick and easy, the only difficult part, will be picking a name!

* Telephone support is via a US number listed on our website.

More than 10 years after the Internet first really invaded British homes, many businesses in the UK are either completely ignoring it or failing to fully utilise it.

At first I was amazed to read that just over 1/3rd of UK businesses have absolutely no web presence whatsoever (according to figures from the UK Federation of Small Businesses). Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Then I sat down and thought about all the business owners that I have spoken to over the last 12 months and remembered that a large proportion of them admitted (with some uncomfortable shuffling of feet and gazing at the floor) that they didn’t have a website. Now, when you ask them if they use the internet themselves to find or buy stuff, almost 100% say yes, either buying from eBay, booking their next holiday, buying car insurance and so on. Yet they let their own business stumble along, a decade behind the times, getting all uncomfortable when asked if they have a website.

Of those that do have an online presence, only 18% actively sell things online according to the FSB.

According to Capgemini and the IMRG, online spending in the UK in 2007 was 46.6 BILLION POUNDS.
That’s up an impressive 54 per cent over the not inconsiderable £30.2 billion in 2006.

But what about 2008? What about the credit crunch and the gloomy economy we keep hearing about? Let’s look at the last couple of months or so. Clothing and footwear saw some of the biggest drops in sales in physical stores in June. What happened? Did people stop buying clothes? Hardly. According to Capgemini online sales of clothing rose 32 per cent and footwear rose 38 per cent in the same month…

OK, that’s just one month, what about July?
Capgemini report that UK internet sales reached £4.8bn in July, a rise of 11.3 per cent over June whereas figures for the high street reported by the British Retail Consortium say their sales were down 0.9 per cent in July compared to June.

With almost 20 out of every 100 pounds spent in the UK being spent online why do businesses in the UK either ignore their internet presence or just pay someone a few pounds to throw up nothing more than a phone number and address on a plain page? No-one is going to call after reaching a page that just contains a phone number when there are thousands of other sites with a proper website.

Do people think it’s expensive or complicated? For small businesses, going “online” is generally significantly cheaper than a months rent for their shop or office. In fact I’d estimate that it likely as not costs less than your annual electric bill… Contact us, we’ll prove it.
